My responsibilities
User research, wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, user interface design

Problem

The research showed that many people, busy with their hectic lives full of work and personal commitments, tend to neglect their diet by resorting to fast food or meals that can be easily prepared at home.

Goal

This project aims to help people who have difficulty shopping due to lack of time. It also helps people to not neglect their diet by promoting healthy meals that are also easy to prepare.

Knowing the target

My research with users has shown me that many people struggle to find the time (or energy) to prepare a healthy meal for themselves and their families.

Often the cause is a lack of time to go shopping, or sometimes the ability to purchase healthy food is seen as not economically accessible.

Nicole

Problem statement:
Nicole is a 25-year-old freelance worker who works remotely. She needs to stop eating junk food and find a better solution for her groceries and meals because she needs a motivational boost to not fall back into old and bad eating habits.

Story:
Working from home, there is often a strong temptation to fall back into junk food by ordering takeout or cooking something quick and easy. She knows that eating so much unhealthy food can be harmful to her health, as she leads a sedentary lifestyle due to her work.

Michele

Problem statement:
Michele is a 32-year-old worker with a busy schedule who needs to find a better solution for grocery shopping and meals because he needs to cook healthy meals even if he has little time.

Story:
Michele is a singer for a theater company. His days are divided between rehearsals at the theater and singing workshops he holds for his students. Often when he comes home, he has to stop at the supermarket to buy food for the evening and the next day, but he ends up buying unhealthy fast food.

Design

Ideation Process

In my ideation process, I focused on the discovery of the recipe and also on the process of purchasing the ingredients of the recipe before making it.

Digital Wireframes

After I came up with and designed paper wireframes, I had ideas for the home page. I imagined that the user had already taken the quiz to let the app know what their food preferences would be.

Low Fidelity Prototype

To be ready for usability testing, I created a prototype that connected the user through the process of choosing a recipe to prepare and deciding to purchase the ingredients to prepare it.

Usability Studies

Parameters

Study type: Unmoderated usability study
LocationItaly: remote
Participants: 5 participants
Length: 30/60 minutes

Outcomes

Groceries: Users couldn’t find the right way to add items to their cart
Checkout: Users felt not confident in going on through the checkout
Recipes: Users had a hard time in finding the recipe section

Refining the design

Mockups

Based on usability studies, I provided a clearer experience on the home page and the menu below to help users better find recipes.

Mockups

Because users reported not feeling confident to proceed with payment, I changed the experience by providing prices and more space between items

High Fidelity Prototype

The high-fidelity prototype followed the same user flow as the low-fidelity prototype, including the design changes made after usability studies, and a quiz for preferences was also added.

Considerazioni sull'accessibilità

Labels

Clear labels were created for interactive sections to make them easier to read

Colors

The colors are simple and non-intrusive to make navigation easier

Quiz

A preference quiz was created to allow people to have recipes based on their needs and preferences.

Responsive

Sitemap

After creating the app designs, I started working on a responsive website. This is the HealFoodie website map to guide the organizational structure of the design of each screen to ensure a cohesive and consistent experience across all devices.

Responsive Design

I optimized the website design to meet the specific needs of users on every device and screen size. The designs for the size variation included mobile devices, tablets, and desktops.

Considerazioni finali

Impact

The real impact of the app can only be understood by analyzing future developments with users. However, during usability studies, I was able to discover that the app could really help people and their relationship with food.

What I learned

I have realized that many people face problems with their eating habits due to their lifestyle, which forces them to care less about their body and diet. This is a problem because it can lead to health problems and their quality of life can be seriously compromised.
