PetFinder
The project required designing a design for a pet adoption process to allow people to make a simple and easy adoption
Duration of the project
01 March 2022 – 13 March 2022
My responsibilities
User research, wireframing, prototyping, usability studies, user interface design
Problem
Often, animal shelters are overcrowded and the volunteers who care for them are unable to manage good communication with people looking to adopt a puppy. This can discourage people and make them reluctant to continue with the next steps.
Goal
The goal is to create an easy animal adoption process to allow people to make a simple adoption.
Knowing the target
Often, animal shelters are overcrowded and the volunteers who care for them are unable to manage good communication with people looking to adopt a puppy. This can discourage people and make them reluctant to continue with the next steps.
The frustration expressed by the interviewees was palpable and explained by the length of the process and the inability to maintain good communication with the volunteers.
Ensuring a simple adoption process can allow more and more pets to join a family that gives them love.
User Journey Map
The user may feel a sense of distrust in the success of the adoption proposal as requests are often rejected or ignored
Digital Wireframes
To be ready for usability testing, I created digital wireframes and prototypes that connected the user through the process of choosing a recipe to prepare and decide to buy ingredients to prepare it.
Usability Studies
Parameters
Study type: Unmoderated usability study;
Location: Italy, remote;
Participants: 4 participants;
Duration: 20 minutes
Outcomes
Search bar: Users would like to be able to search from any page;
Success page: The success page is too empty and uninviting
Refining the design
Having noticed that users would like to be able to perform specific searches (such as searching for a specific type of cat), I chose to add the search bar to every page, not just the home page.
Having also noticed from usability studies that the Thank You page may have some shortcomings in terms of sections, I chose to add a section dedicated to animals that have already found a family through the site to improve the mood of users who have just made a request
High Fidelity Prototype
Then it was time to test the mockups and create high-fidelity prototypes.
Accessibility Considerations
Headings
The headers were designed to comply with accessibility rules.
Colors
The colors and spaces have been designed to meet the needs of the blind and people with related disorders.
Final Considerations
Impact
"I believe that if more animal shelters used a similar method to simplify the adoption process, by now there would be many more pets that would have already met their new family", said one of the members interviewed following usability studies.
What I learned
I have learned about the needs of these people, namely animal lovers who want to adopt one, but I have also learned about the enormous effort that volunteers make every day to take care of them.The website designed would undoubtedly be focused on wanting to highlight this very important aspect.
